St. Michael’s Cathedral and St. Mary’s Church, Bridgetown, Barbados

During our Bridgetown city trip we saw some several churches but most of them were closed. It was however possible to visit the St. Michael’s Cathedral which was built in 1665 and destroyed by a hurricane in 1780. The new church was again damaged by a hurricane in 1831. Today the church exterior is in a reasonable state but the interior needs a lot of refurbishing.

St. Mary’s church has a cemetery in the garden, fabulous trees and flowers. When you enter the church you face a baptistery. This church is beautiful with many wooden elements and a bleu ceiling. Certainly worth a visit.

  1. I so love old churches (and visiting cemeteries - weird I know) and these photos are amazing of the structures you saw. That blue ceiling is stunning but both buildings are a testament to strength knowing the weather they have in those parts! I'm amazed at the age of them!
